Of interest to all of us, of course, is the great rookie cards from 2024 Topps Series 1 Baseball, and trust me – there’s a bunch of them!
You can bet these rookie cards are on our list of the Best Rookie Cards From Every Topps Baseball Set ever!
Something USER pointed out in our video comments was that the set checklist goes to 350 cards, compared to the 330 cards from Series 1 last year! They squeezed almost 10 percent more cards on us, which means these great rookie cards will be tougher to pull!
Just like the 2023 Topps Series 1 bumper crop, headlined by two great Orioles hitters, this set of first-year players is stacked with great names prospect hunters have been working with for years!
Is it fair to say EDLC has a chance to become Ronald Acuna Jr. JUNIOR!?!? De La Cruz also has a big bat and super speed, which makes for a crazy amount of collectability – especially from a 22-year-old player! He headlines a great rookie class!
De La Cruz still has things to work out, but his elite exit velocities and sprint speeds make him the cream of a great rookie crop!
This is a bit of a good news /bad news situation for collectors (and Yankees fans!). Dominguez tore his ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) late last season, which forced him to get Tommy John Surgery. That’s the bad news.
But we’ve seen hitters come back from that fine. The good news is because he’s hurt, you should be able to get The Martian’s rookie cards at a discount in the early part of the season, as others chase some of these other rookies.
Dominguez should provide solid on-base ability and slugging – and he’s a Yankees prospect, which automatically makes him more collectible. This guy homered four times in just eight games in the majors! He has 30/30 potential! Exclamation point!
One of the Rangers’ top hitters in the postseason, Carter isn’t sneaking up on anyone who watched the MLB Playoffs. He’s a good hitter with average power, but he is expected to run more in 2024!
Cowser is Baltimore’s No. 2 prospect (is Jackson Holliday coming in Series 2?), and the O’s have now shown they can develop young hitters! (see Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson).
While Cowser hit 17 homers in 87 games at Triple-A, he couldn’t tap into those power numbers in his 26-game cup of coffee in the majors last year.
Cowser’s ISO numbers averaged around .219 at Double- and Triple-A last season, which portends to improved power eventually in the majors.
The Giants’ No. 2 prospect is expected to start at shortstop in San Francisco, and he’ll start in the back of the order. However, he could become a 35-HR guy at some point, even though he is expected to move over to third base or a corner outfield spot eventually.
Check out the best rookie cards from the past 70+ years on our post about the Best Rookie Cards From Every Topps Baseball Set!
This group of the best rookies from 2024 Topps Series 1 could be the best rookie card crop in a single Topps series since — well, 2023 Series 1, when we were excited for Adley Rutschman, Gunnar Henderson and Michael Harris II!
