Week 2 Sleepers to Consider

Jay Cutler, Week 2 Sleepers

Fantasy owners far and wide are chasing ever-elusive Week 2 sleepers — the guy that will make the whole league gasp and wonder where he came from.

It is safe to say that last week’s biggest surprise was the Denver’s Julius Thomas, which I gave to my readers. We won’t talk about some of my other suggestions (Big Ben did not exactly have a big game).

Honestly, it is difficult to pick that one surprise player. But we really don’t need sleepers at every position, just where we are the weakest. So why not come up with a list of several players to keep an eye on?

Here is a list of a few sleepers at each position. Are these players the best at their position? Of course not. But some owners don’t have the best, they just need a one hit wonder to push them into victory lane.

If you are in a good position to take a flyer on a player, here are some players to consider.

Week 2 Sleepers

We all can’t have a top 10 QB. Some owners drafted heavy on running backs and wide receivers and wound up with mediocre quarterbacks on their squads.

Those owners should take a look at Cutler this weekend vs Minnesota.

The Vikings havn’t exactly defended QBs well here of late, and Cutler is coming off a pretty good game last week. If the Bears can keep Cutler on his feet, he could throw for three TDs and 300 yards.

Roy Helu, RB, Washington

Let’s face it, we are always looking for surprise running backs. Even if we don’t need one, they are good to have on the bench. Even if it is just to keep your opponent from having a good one.

Helu should see some time this week vs. Green Bay on third down and passing downs. If these two teams get into a track meet, which is very likely, Helu could get more touches than Alfred Morris, who didn’t exactly set the world on fire last week.

Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Arizona

Mendenhall isn’t anyone’s RB1 or even RB2, but he is the starter in Arizona.

If you are in need of a flex player or are already banged up at RB, Mendenhall could be your guy.

What’s the best part of Mendenhall’s game? He’s not going to lose goal-line touchdowns to another player because he is the short-yardage specialist.

Stephen Hill, WR, N.Y. Jets

Hill is literally the only healthy receiver that the Jets can run out against a New England team that doesn’t really defend the pass well.

He was targeted nine times last week against Tampa Bay and should see at least that much action this week.

By the way, Hill torched the Patriots last year for 89 yards and two touchdowns in Week 1. Remember, you picked him up and then he didn’t do squat for the rest of the year?

Run him out there this week as your third wideout or a flex player. This could be a big week for him.

Kendall Wright, WR, Tennessee

The Texans, despite what everyone thinks about their defense, don’t defend receivers well. There is a chance that the Titans could get in a shootout with Houston and that means Wright would get some good looks.

The sun, moon, and stars may all have to align this weekend, but if they do, and Jake Locker has a good game, you could benefit greatly from running Wright out as your WR3 or flex guy.

Wright did catch 10 passes for 124 yards and a TD in two games vs. Houston last year, so it wouldn’t be a total surprise if he played well this weekend.
