Week 5 Waiver Wire Adds

Another week, another injury to deal with. Darren McFadden owners are cringing and Ray Rice’s are wondering why he even played at all. Andre Johnson proved that sometimes all it takes is a kick in the shin to catch 9 balls for 110 yards, while C.J. Spiller, Alfred Morris and LeSean McCoy are all dealing with injuries. Or in McCoy’s case, perhaps he was just a little too high to breathe.

The Redskins, Steelers, Buccaneers and Vikings are all on their Bye Week, so adjust your rosters accordingly, but also, make sure to check and see if anyone dropped any Packers or Panthers who can help your club.

I’ve been including Weekly IDP players here, but am going to do an additional piece with a little more detail and a peek at some trends through the first quarter of the Fantasy season.

Week 5 Waiver Wire Adds

RB Rashad Jennings, Oakland Raiders

With Darren McFadden and Marcel Reece nicked up, it will be Rashard Jennings who’ll get the carries going forward for the Raiders. He has limited skills and upside, but he’ll get the workload and that has value in itself.

The significance of that value is the important part though. The Raiders aren’t an explosive offense and just lost their best play-maker. I’d let someone else chase Jennings, but if you’re desperate he’ll play.

RB Danny Woodhead, San Diego Chargers

The Chargers used Danny Woodhead in the Red Zone Sunday against the Cowboys and he rewarded the team with 2 scores. He is unlikely to be available in PPR formats, but if he continues to get the work around the End Zone, Woodhead is the back to own in San Diego.

Considering Ryan Mathews has a single Rushing Touchdown since 2011, this could be Woodhead’s role going forward. There is no reason not to take a flier on him, especially with the Chargers’ offense looking better.

WR Alshon Jeffrey, Chicago Bears

Alshon Jeffery has 19 targets in the last two weeks, which he has turned into 158 yards, 12 grabs and a score. He looked good when healthy last year and has firmly established himself in the Bears offense and Cutler’s sights.

Jeffrey might have some ups and downs from week-to-week, but what complimentary receiver doesn’t? He should be owned in nearly all formats and might be a become a starter in PPR leagues.

WR Robert Woods, Buffalo Bills

The USC standout has begun to transfer his Saturday success to Sundays. Woods is becoming a bigger factor in the Bills offense by the week and there is no reason to doubt him continuing his ascend. He is a play-maker.

Woods has twice as many targets in the past two weeks, than the first two. Obviously a good sign, but he also had a score turned over this week. He could be a starter option sooner than later.

WR Marlon Brown, Baltimore Ravens

Another Touchdown and another appearance on the Waiver Wire Adds list for Mr. Marlon Brown. Am I bullish and blinded? Am I missing something? Obviously, you’d like to see a few more than 150 yards after 4 games, which lands Brown smack in the middle of score or bust territory.

But, in Standard Leagues, those 3 Touchdowns have him as a top 35 Wide Receiver and that is good enough to roster him, at the very least. More targets and receptions could have him as a weekly starter and it isn’t out of the question.

WR Austin Pettis, St. Louis Rams

The Rams receiver is emerging as a favorite target for Sam Bradford, with 31 targets through 4 games. Pettis has done his job, turning them into 2 scores and 173 yards. He is physical and a big target that Bradford will force the ball to.

The Rams’ passing game is a little bit up in the air and there is potential for Pettis to emerge as Bradford’s go-to target if he continues his strong play. It would help if they could get the running game going, but you should expect a solid game from all the Rams with Jacksonville up next.

TE Coby Fleener, Indianapolis Colts

Did a single poor week take Fleener off the Fantasy radar? He should be good for 6-8 targets a week and has shown a nose for the End Zone. There isn’t any competition from another Colts’ Tight End either, Fleener is readily available and capable.

Next week’s matchup against the Seahawks isn’t as daunting as you might think either, so don’t be afraid to roll with Fleener. He has excellent chemistry with Andrew Luck.

DST Buffalo Bills

It is a tough week for Streaming Defenses and Buffalo’s 93 points against isn’t pretty but the 11 turnovers and 13 sacks makes them a legit option. They face the upstart Cleveland Browns, in what looks like a Fantasy afterthought on most levels, but expect the other shoe to finally fall for the Browns.

The Bills travel into Cleveland with a depleted secondary, but they’ve been competitive and stand at 2-2 with a chance to go above .500 on the season. They’ve been good enough to beat better teams than the Browns. At least, they should be considered better than the Browns.

Week 5 Waiver Wire Adds – Bye Week Quarterback Replacements

Sam Bradford, St. Louis Rams: It was a solid start to the season, but with back-to-back tough outings Bradford has found himself on a lot of waiver wire lists. A home matchup against the Jaguars couldn’t have come any ‘Sooners’ for the alum.

Alex Smith, Kansas City Chiefs: Well within QB1 territory through 4 weeks, you could do a lot worse than plugging in Mr. Reliable. You’d love to see more yards, but he is putting TDs on the board and has snuck in 150 rushing yards. The Titans aren’t an ideal matchup however.

Week 5 Waiver Wire Adds – Bye Week Tight End Replacements

Charles Clay, Miami Dolphins: He is involved, which is great, but he is also scoring Fantasy points. Last night, he caught all 6 targets for 40 yards and a score and is currently ranked 8th among TEs in Standard formats.
